چکیده

The far–IR is a unique wavelength range for Astrophysical studies, however, it can only be fully sampled from space platforms. The fundamental rotational transitions of light molecules, the high–J transitions of polyatomic species, the bending modes of non-polar molecules, several atomic fine structure lines and many frequencies blocked by the earth atmosphere can only be observed between 50 and 200 μm (6.0 and 1.5 THz). In this contribution we present the far–IR spectrum of Sgr B2 at a resolution of ∼35 km s, the “Rosetta stone” of ISO’s spectra. We also discuss the perspectives of the far–IR Astronomy in the context of the future telescopes under development.

Far - Infrared detection of methylene ⋆

We present a clear detection of CH 2 in absorption towards the molecular cloud complexes Sagittarius B2 and W49 N using the ISO Long Wavelength Spectrometer. These observations represent the first detection of its low excitation rotational lines in the interstellar medium. Towards Sagittarius B2, we detect both ortho and para transitions allowing a determination of the total CH 2 column density...

Herschel observations of the Sagittarius B2 cores: Hydrides, warm CO, and cold dust ⋆

Context. Sagittarius B2 is one of the most massive and luminous star-forming regions in the Galaxy and shows a very rich chemistry and physical conditions similar to those in much more distant extragalactic starbursts. Aims. We present large-scale far-infrared/submillimeter photometric images and broadband spectroscopic maps taken with the PACS and SPIRE instruments onboard Herschel. Methods. H...

The Far-ir View of Sgr B2 and Orion Kl: Template Star-forming Regions

We summarize the main highlights from ISO observations towards Sgr B2 and Orion KL in the far–IR domain (∼43 to 197μm). Both Star–Forming Regions are among the best sources to construct a template for more distant and unresolved regions (e.g., extragalactic). We stress some peculiarities in the interpretation (excitation and radiative transfer) of far–IR spectral lines and dust continuum emission.

Warm Water Vapor around Sagittarius B2

In the region of Sgr B2 there are several condensations heated externally by nearby hot stars. Therefore H2O far–IR lines are expected to probe only an external low–density and high temperature section of these condensations, whereas millimeter-wave lines can penetrate deeper into them where the density is higher and Tk lower. We have conducted a study combining H2O lines in both spectral regio...
